Fishnet stockings: who wears them?

Fishnet stockings are a fashion item that includes a history of allure and fashion. Called fishnets because of the way they are woven in small diamond shapes, today's fishnets range from a tightly woven, more refined pattern, to a larger scale pattern for the more daring. The origin of fishnet stockings is still being debated. Before most of us were born, fishnet stockings were associated with Paris, worn primarily by prostitutes, strippers and call girls.They were also worn by show girls at the Moulin Rouge.They first appeared in America in 1908 and until the 1960s, were not considered a "respectable legwear solution." During the Jazz Age in the 1920s, women began showing their legs as the hemlines got higher and lingered just below the knee. Fishnets were a solution for showing off the legs but covering them at the same time. The weave was tight that just a bit of leg actually showed. It was common to see ladies wearing flapper dresses and fishnet stockings. In the 70s, punks found fishnets to be their favorite legwear under their short black mini-skirts, making a bold dramatic anti-feminism fashion statement. Later in the 80s and 90s the Goth look also included black fishnets in varying degrees of pattern size. It wasn't until the late 1980s and 1990s that fishnets became more acceptable as designers began to incorporate into their runway design collections. Today, from thigh-highs to knee-highs, to the more common pantyhose style, fishnets are once again popular and are now an acceptable fashion legwear. Fishnet pantyhose are commonly worn with all types of clothing, whether under your torn jeans or accenting fun short summer dresses. No matter what your taste and style are, fishnets are surprisingly flattering to legs; they are the perfect inexpensive and creative way to brighten up your summer wardrobe!
