GOING GREEN ON ST. PATRICK'S DAY

GOING GREEN ON ST. PATRICK'S DAY

Get Your GREEN ON! At FOOT TRAFFIC, we love to party. We enjoy every holiday and any opportunity to wear festive socks. St. Patrick's Day is fun because we get to "get our green on" and enjoy all of the perks of this occasion. Why do we wear green? Did you know that the original color of St. Patrick's Day was blue? It changed to green over time because of shamrocks. St. Patrick wore a green shamrock on his robe to explain the holy trinity to pagans instead of preaching to them. Over time, others began to wear the shamrock as a symbol of rebirth and Irish pride which eventually led to wearing green clothing as well as the shamrock. At Foot Traffic, we recommend wearing our bright green tights to brighten up your outfit. It is an easy way to acknowledge and avoid getting pinched. (Tradition is that if you are not wearing green, you just might get pinched!) Did you know that leprechauns are not originally affiliated with St. Patrick's Day? These fiendish little characters are a Celtic folklore that associates them with protecting their pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. With time, all things Irish got lumped together and leprechauns are now a significant part of St. Patrick's Day tradition. Wearour fun festive rainbow socks as you look for your pot of gold! Of course, there is no way that you can go to a St. Patrick's Day parade without wearing green socks, hats, t-shirts, or glasses. Parades are part of St. Patrick's Day fun as they are held all over the country from small towns to major cities. But, did you know that the first parade took place in Boston in 1737? It was almost 200 years later when Ireland began holding its own parade. The largest parades in the U.S. include New York City, Chicago, Savannah, Philadelphia and Kansas City. So "get your green on" and celebrate on MARCH 17 when EVERYONE is Irish!
