Happy Turkey Day
Thanksgiving is just around the corner and this year, in particular, I am scratching my head as I look at the past couple of months and evaluate the election and try to figure how that fits into my personal list of things I am grateful for. Never mind political leanings, I am proud to be an American and I am proud of the freedoms that we exercise each and every day. Our forefathers delivered a pretty incredible constitution that still stands today even though we often challenge the privileges we have become accustomed to. I will say grace this coming holiday and know that I am particularly grateful for the freedom of speech and know we need to stand up for what we believe and actively support our beliefs and values like never before. On Thanksgiving Day families will be gathered around the table sharing whatever their traditions bring. Most are fortunate enough to enjoy a turkey dinner with all of the trimmings. Many are not so fortunate and will be quietly spending the day just getting by. So rather that fret about whether our candidate won or lost, let's stand together as one nation and become engaged in what is important to making our nation one that is for all the people, no matter what religion, color, nationality, or age we are. "Making American great again" falls short. America has always been great. We just need to make it better. And, of course, I am always grateful for a sense of humor. These are serious times and there are serious concerns around the world. But for this upcoming Thanksgiving Day when we are taking our blessings seriously, don't hesitate to flash your turkey socks. After all, a smile is a universal language. Be grateful we can still laugh. Save Save Save
